“Man’s heart away from nature becomes hard.” – Standing Bear
A little about Standing Bear. He was a Ponca Indian in Nebraska in the 1800’s. He was party to a landmark court case where it was judged that Indians were indeed people and US citizens and entitled to the same rights as others. Contrary to the governments argument that they were neither a person or a citizen. Unbelievable and incredibly sad.
I was creating a flower gallery and ran across some of these pics – not previously published. Probably a few more will trickle out in the next few days.

“All gardening is landscape painting” – William Kent
Kudos to our (University of Central Florida) landscapers – they do a wonderful job.

“Nothing makes me so happy than to observe nature and paint what I see” – Henri Rousseau
Finished my last available book on Rousseau Portrait of a Primitive by Ronald Alley excellent biography and a good chronology of his works.
I continue my quest to capture greenery and portray it in Rousseau’s style. I’ve said this before, I need to develop some contrast somehow. I’ll continue to work on it.

“The sky is the daily bread of the eyes” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
This fellow was doing a sort of mating ritual – he was perched and would fly about in a perfect square of about 4 foot. I couldn’t spot the other birds he was trying to impress, perhaps he was practicing.

Not sure about these pics. there’s no mystery about what they are looking for – food. So we have to go with lighting. 1st pic the reflections are interesting. This pic was taken just after the golden hour – but before the light got too harsh. Second pic was a foggy morning at the arboretum.
I need to learn how to capture the mystery of fog – any tips are greatly appreciated. Because I “see” a smokey moor and capture a cloudy picture.
There was a warm golden light on this fellow – highlighting the tufts of yellow feathers. As for identification, I’m torn between the yellow rumped or the palm warbler.
The egret was back lit with the morning sun, giving him a golden tail.
