Beautiful pictures and interesting quote :-). I agree that when one is concerned with bird identification, it detracts from the appreciation of the visual and auditory beauty of the birds. But I find that time spent identifying birds enriches future experiences of simple bird appreciation. A bit like listening for different instruments in a piece of music.
