Since we haven’t seen one all week. They are very active at the Wetlands – are these also known as Mayflys? It would be appropriate.

“Reflected in the dragonflies eye — mountains” – Kobayashi Issa
Dragonflies live 2 different lives. In the east they are majestic signs of strength, in the west objects of superstition. Some translations of European names for dragonflies – devils needle (French and German), water witch, blind stinger. See this blurb for more info http://www.petzon.se/dragonfly/main/just_for_fun/folklore.html. I’ll be adding this to my wetlands tour talks.
To me the fact that hexagons appear again – in the light reflected from the dragonflies eyes is a tribute to that universal shape.
Thanks to http://justkeepbrains.com/ for leading me on this path of investigation.

Saturday the dragonflies seemed as numerous as gnats. Never have I experienced that. It will be a good crop this year. Also spent some time with our Friends of the Orlando Wetlands resident dragonfly and butterfly experts – Randy and Mary. Amazing folks.

“What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the master calls a butterfly.” – Richard Bach
The dragonfly escapes the butterflies problem. I will have to investigate the life cycle of the dragonfly.

“You can do anything, but not everything” – David Allen
That quote is a reminder to me!!
It’s dragonfly season in Central Florida – they are beautiful creatures. However, I feel like the a cartoon character with a butterfly net as I chase the dragon flies around the path with my camera.

“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.” – Mahatma Gandhi
Birds are getting scarce. They are nesting, and smaller birds have gone north. Dragon flies are epic.
